MANZINI – The mystery of the low flying airplane on Wednesday, which had people curious and thinking it had developed a mechanical fault and had to make an emergency landing, has been solved.

It was a cargo plane said to be ferrying security equipment for the army. The type of equipment cannot be identified as it touches on the country’s security. It landed at the Matsapha Airport to deliver the equipment said to have been purchased by the army.  Impeccable sources from within the security agencies, when the plane arrived, said it was met by a heavy security detail of USDF members and other security personnel who safeguarded the delivery.

The arrival of the plane and its cargo was said to be top secret and attempts to ascertain, which country the plane came from were unsuccessful and it returned later that day.
The source said the equipment was meant to strengthen security during the oncoming 2016 Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit to be hosted by Swaziland next month.  It is during this gathering where His Majesty King Mswati III is expected to assume chairmanship of the region.

Another source within the security forces revealed that the Matsapha Airport would be busy until the Summit starts towards the end of next month as government was expecting a lot of goods for the gathering.
“Some of the goods are security equipment meant to boost the security as some of the SADC countries’ leaders need to be closely watched because of their status both in their nations and region,” the source explained. He mentioned that some of the heads of State would be chauffeured in armoured cars, which would be also heavily guarded by the extensively trained security officers.

“I can also reveal that there will be security officers using helicopters to keep a close watch on these country leaders as they travel from one place to another,” the source said.
Colonel Wilfred Dlamini, the USDF Public Relations Officer (PRO), wondered how the press got to know of the presence of the aircraft and only confirmed that there was one, which came this week to deliver security equipment for the army.  He did not want to specify what the equipment was citing security reasons.
