MANZINI – The upcoming SADC Summit 2016 is set to be held under a thick cloud of dust from a four-day long mass protest to be hosted by TUCOSWA in all the  country’s cities and towns.

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit 2016 will take place towards the end of August and the Trade Union Congress of Swaziland’s (TUCOSWA) intended protest is scheduled for August 30, 2016 to September 2, 2016.

This is according to a letter, which was written by TUCOSWA secretariat and was sent to the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, via the chairman of the Labour Advisory Board.

The same letter was copied to the Federation of Swaziland Employers and Chamber of Commerce (FSE&CC), Federation of Swaziland Business Community (FESBC), Federation of Swaziland Trade Unions (FESWATU) and the Royal Swaziland Police (RSP).
In the letter, the federation notified the above bodies about the protest action on inability of the Ministry of Education and Training to pronounce against the automatical unfair dismissal and treatment of widows working in national schools.

The letter said the protest action would also be about complaining about the failure of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security to assist in the discussion of several matters they raised with government.

The trade union said the Ministry of Education and Training also failed to respond to its letter, dated September 22, 2015, calling on it to make a public statement about the illegality of the non-payment and dismissal of widows working in national schools on account of their being away from work on compassionate leave (mourning period).
