MBABANE – What was supposed to bring joy to a civil servant ended in tragedy for his family as he killed himself after receiving his bumper pay.

Sifiso Dlamini (47) of Buka killed himself on Saturday, two days after getting his salary.
He apparently told his wife before he died that he was having serious financial problems.
Talking to his wife before taking weevils tablets, he told her his debts were beyond his control.

Dlamini had been employed by the Fire and Emergency Services Department, as the Inspector of Works, in the Matsapha workshop.
Some of his colleagues said he called the Mbabane office on Friday, which was a holiday, and informed his superiors of the work he had done the previous day.
This was the last time he spoke to the people with whom he worked.

His wife called the police on Saturday after discovering that he had swallowed the deadly tablets.
He was immediately rushed to Mbabane Government Hospital where he was admitted in a critical condition.
Dlamini died on Sunday. Arrangements for his burial are still ongoing as the family has reported his death to his workplace.

His friends, who worked with him described him as a nice man who knew how to do his job. Some said he was receiving psychological counseling as he had been ill in the past few years.
“He was on and off work for a few years as he was sick. He had returned to work because we could see that he was better. He was even allowed to use one of the vehicles.

“We do not know what started the sickness, but he was getting help. This is a shock to us because we thought he was better. As his colleagues, we will go to his family to offer our condolences as he was a dignified man,” one of his colleagues said. When his family home was visited at Buka family members, were found in a sombre mood and they asked not to comment on the matter as it was still fresh.
A woman, who came out to attend to this reporter said: “As a family, we ask to be left alone for now as there is nothing we can say.”
