MANZINI – A woman spent the night in tears after her 10-month old baby was allegedly stolen by her niece on Sunday.

The niece, Thulisile Dlamini (29) of Macetjeni, is alleged to have stolen the baby, under the pretext that she was going to the shops to buy a few household items, however, she was allegedly seen by residents boarding a kombi to an unknown destination.
The child’s parents are said to have searched for Dlamini all over, trying to locate her whereabouts, however, they could not find her.

Dlamini, who is alleged to have requested a family member to accompany her to the shops is said to have ordered the child to return home before boarding the kombi.
When the child’s mother, Futhi Nkambule, tried calling Dlamini on her cellphone, she did not answer; she is alleged to have later switched it off.

The matter was reported to the Matsapha Police Station and statements were recorded.
Information gathered is that Dlamini, after allegedly stealing the child, boarded another kombi from the bus rank and headed to Hhohho where her boyfriend resides.
The police confirmed that the woman had previously informed her boyfriend, who is employed at Maguga, that she was pregnant and was even receiving money for clothing and formula for the alleged child.
“There was no baby, however, she kept on lying to her man and when it was time for the boyfriend to see the child, she seemingly had no option but to steal her aunt’s child.

“On Sunday, she went and showed the man the stolen child, unfortunately the police arrested her shortly after,” a family member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.
The suspect was arrested on her way back from Hhohho, while she was at Mhlaleni by the police, who took her to the Matsapha Police Station (eSigodvweni), where she was questioned and detained, pending her court appearance today.

Matsapha Police Station Desk Officer Assistant Superintendent Nhlanhla Maseko said the suspect’s boyfriend was also ordered to report to the police station to record a statement on the incident.
Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Khulani Mamba confirmed the matter and said the woman had been already charged with contravening the Children’s Protection and Welfare Act.
Superintendent Mamba added that the suspect would appear in court today.
