MANZINI - A Swazi man is lucky to be alive after he was grazed by a bullet on the head by another believed to be a South African, after a short argument.

It could not be immediately ascertained what the argument was about, but eyewitnesses said they heard the two men who were in the car mention money.
The incident happened at the market centre near Lobamba Lomdzala High School yesterday, at around 11am.

A source close to the matter said the duo had met earlier on the day and the car was seen moving up and down around the area. Later on, the car is said to have stopped in the middle of the road in front of the market centre close to the school.
There were two men in the vehicle.

“Immediately the vehicle stopped, the man who was a passenger alighted while shouting at the driver who also came out pointing a finger at his friend. Heated words were exchanged and the driver was heard saying; ‘remember that I have a gun’.
The passenger responded by saying; ‘I know that and shoot me if you want to,’ revealed an eyewitness.

The driver then drew out a gun and fired a single shot in the air, in a bid to scare his ‘friend’ away, but he instead of being scared, the friend approached him in a threatening manner.
The driver fired another shot but this time it was aimed at his friend and hit his fingers, before it grazed his right ear.

“After firing the two shots, the driver got back into the car and sped off, but the shot man was quick enough to draw a bush knife from his trouser and smashed the car’s rear window.”
An old woman found at the market could not hide her horror as she narrated how she and her daughter had to watch the men in the blue car argue before the shooting started.

“I do not know what happened or how the argument started. I was minding my business in the market when a car stopped near my stall and I heard the men, who were both in the car argue over E5 000. I thought somehow they had cheated each other over a clandestine deal and as they fought one – whipped out a gun and shot his friend,” she said.

The woman said the man who was shot attacked the driver and used a bush knife to smash the rear view window as the car sped of.
“My child is still completely traumatised over what she witnessed, as she thought the shot man would die from the wounds.”
