MANZINI – Government has finally relented and has tabled an enhanced offer of E850 million to public sector unions towards the ongoing salary review process.
Government has added E39 million to its initial offer of E811 million.

This, after unions have continuously rejected government’s offer of E811 million, which the latter had insisted was the final offer to civil servants in the country.
Reliable sources have revealed that government tabled an offer of E850 million, which will cater for salaries and that civil servants will remain on their current notches in the event they move up to another pay scale.

Public sector unions comprise the Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT), National Public Service and Allied Workers Union (NAPSAWU), Swaziland Democratic Nurses Union (SWADNU) and Swaziland National Association of Government Accounting Personnel (SNAGAP).

This offer was presented to workers’ representatives in an urgent meeting held at the negotiations chambers, at the Ministry of Public Service.
According to information gathered by this publication, the four unions’ representatives received invitations to the urgent meeting late Wednesday afternoon and this invite was extended by the Government Negotiations Team (GNT), led by Secretary to Cabinet Mbuso Dlamini.

This, after the two parties could not reach an agreement concerning the salary review exercise, which has taken years to conclude  since the process began. The Ministry of Pubic Service Principal Secretary, Evart Madlopha, confirmed that the gnt met with the unions’ representetives in an urgent meeting yesterday morning.

“I can confirm that government has enhanced its offer of E811 million and this was presented to the unions this morning. We, however, cannot divulge what the exact offer is as we still need to meet with them,” Madlopha said.
The PS mentioned that the GNT would be meeting with the unions after they had held consultative meetings with their principals concerning the tabled offer.
He refused to divulge the new offer, stating that the unions first had to agree to it before this information could be released to the public. “When all parties have agreed, we will release a joint statement as stated by our negotiations guidelines,” Madlopha said.
