UNMARRIED MARRIAGE OFFICERS CAUSE FOR ADULTERY

MBABANE- “If a couple is counselled by an unmarried marriage officer before marriage, that couple is bound to commit adultery during the course of their relationship.”

This was an observation made by the President of the League of the Southern African Churches Bishop Samson Hlatshwako following the increasing cases of adulterous affairs by pastors in the country.
Hlatshwako called upon all those who want to be marriage officers to first get married so that they could experience on what marriage life entails before presiding over nuptials.

He said it was only through experience that a counselor could give true advice about marriage to a couple. The bishop said it was essential that marriage officers understand the challenges of marriage so that they can fully unpack it to the couple during counselling.

“Nowadays unmarried pastors preside over marriages. What can a couple learn from an unmarried counsellor?” asked Hlatshwako.
Hlatshwako was responding after he was asked what he thought could be the possible causes of rise in immoral acts including adultery among pastors who are deemed to be the light of the nation.
He said some people were ordained pastors just because they were the sons of pastors. He added that those pastors didn’t even know what they were talking about as they had not experienced life and as such did not qualify to counsel or preside over marriages.

“A real wife who understands what a marriage is about cannot be enticed by a man for immorality,” he said.
Asked about the recent incident whereby a 48-year-old pastor who administers a certain church at Mnjoli was allegedly caught in bed with a 20-year-old married congregant, Hlatshwako said that was an unfortunate scenario that has brought the image of pastors to shame.

Hlatshwako expressed his worry about the incident adding that there were slim chances that the congregants would trust their pastor in the event that the allegations were true.
“The men whose wives attend the church would no longer allow their wives to continue attending his sermons in fear of the alleged immoral act on the pastor’s side.
“Sebambonile lomfundisi kutsi unjani ebafatini bebantfui, ngako ke angeke basabavumela bafati babo kutsi beyewukhonta lapha kulela sontfo,” he said in vernacular.
