MANZINI – Members of the civil society, including unions and political formations intend to use the 36th SADC Summit in August to raise various issues.

They will try to disrupt the Southern African Development Community (SADC) summit in the event it goes ahead, as the movement intends to counter it through hosting what they have termed the ‘Swaziland Democratic Crisis Summit’.

This is meant to ensure that the SADC region is informed of what is happening in Swaziland, concerning the lack of democratic change.
The plans for the coming SADC summit were revealed during a meeting which was held in Manzini on Thursday, where members of different civic organisations, political parties and unions in the country came together to receive feedback from those that had attended the International Labour Organisation (ILO) annual conference in Geneva recently.

Those who attended the meting were also expected to suggest ways through which organisations would move towards a democratic Swaziland.
As such it was agreed that on July 6, all political parties, unions and civic society organisations under the banner of the Swaziland Economic Justice Network will convene a meeting to discuss their planned programmes for the summit.

It was said that during the meeting, a single plan of action would be formulated on how the organisations would carry out its mandate. It was decided that the summit could not be allowed to take place without organisations taking the opportunity to register issues that needed to be known by the world.
It was mentioned that currently, civil servants were being made to run all over the place as government was refusing to award unions with a decent salary review agreement.
