MBABANE – Recorded like a horror movie, video footage never seen before, shows the horrifying extent of police brutality in the kingdom of Swaziland.

The video depicts armed police officers beating up and shooting at marching public servants at Coronation Park in Mbabane.
Wailing, screaming and shouting of expletives at the police for shooting at them, the 12-minute video shows police charging into the protesters, opening fire and wounding several workers.

The march was held in July 2012, when members of the National Public Service and Allied Workers Union (NAPSAWU) were on a three-day strike over a 4.5 per cent salary adjustment, medical aid and other demands. Over 500 workers had converged at Coronation Park, near the Swaziland Broadcasting and Information Services (SBIS).

The police barricaded the area to prevent the movement of civil servants to the Ministry of Public Service.
In the video, one rubber bullet hits a worker in the back, near the spine and he falls.

The bullet penetrates from the back to the front where it leaves a hole in the stomach. Workers, engulfed by teargas fumes, are heard wailing while others criticise the police for setting the head of State against the international community.
Some workers had blood on their clothing.

Others were injured on the head. They laid on the ground helplessly until they were noticed by their colleagues, who bravely rushed to pick them up and take them to ambulances, which were on standby.
