LAVUMISA – Talk about keeping it under wraps! There was a hilarious moment at the Lavumisa Border Gate when police officers intercepted a man who was trying to smuggle dagga, which he had ingeniously hidden by taping the consignment to his stomach, chest and back.

Several travellers, including border officials, were left surprised when investigators uncovered the plan.
What gave him away, the police said, was his uncomfortable movement as he tried to walk with the dagga consignment attached to his body while he tried to cross the border early on Monday morning.

A female police officer approached the man who identified himself as Mduduzi Mphile Shabalala (32) of Matedgeccombe in South Africa, and requested to conduct a search.
She started with the man’s bag but found nothing illegal inside.

However, when she further asked to search his body, the man flatly refused, saying such an exercise cannot be conducted by a female.
He declined to let the officer touch his jacket.
When the woman realised that Shabalala wasn’t prepared to comply, she called for assistance from her male colleagues, who are also stationed at the port of entry.

During body search, police discovered that the man had something taped around his body.
When they asked him to remove the tape, he said he would need a knife to do that, and he was duly handed one.
