GO JUMP, SPEAKER AND PRESIDENT GELANE TOLD

LOBAMBA – In unprecedented fashion, the nine dismissed members of the CPA Executive Committee have told Parliament presiding officers to go jump.

The group has since distanced itself from a statement issued by Senate President Gelane Zwane and Speaker Themba Msibi, who last week insisted that the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Swaziland Branch was still validly in office.

Through a statement issued by Zombodze Emuva MP Titus Thwala and Nkwene MP Sikhumbuzo Dlamini, they said they had noted, “with disdain, derision and condescension the reprehensible statement issued by the Joint Presidents of the CPA.”
On behalf of the nine members of the dissolved committee, the legislators, who include both MPs and senators, said the duo did not enjoy any voting rights in terms of the CPA constitution, but only served as ex-officio members.

They claimed the two failed to cite the relevant article in the CPA constitution that gave them authority to overrule a decision of the membership.
The statement reflects that the nine members do not recognise the statement that was issued by Zwane and Msibi, which they had issued in their quest to continue controlling the affairs of the CPA with unprecedented absolutism.

“CPA belongs to its membership and shall be dictated to by neither the presiding officers nor their puppets,” reads part of the statement.
Thwala and company said they, therefore, respected the decision of the CPA membership and they would abide by it.
“The CPA enjoys a high degree of autonomy and it is not governed by the standing orders,” further reads the statement.
