FAMILY OF GOGO FOUND NAKED SUMMONED BY UMPHAKATSI

LONHLUPHEKO – The family of the elderly woman who was found naked at a neighbour’s yard at night has been summoned to appear before the KaLanga Umphakatsi inner-council.

Information gathered was that traditional authorities want to question the family about the incident, which did not only shock the rural community of KaMartin near Lonhlupheko but also ignited a witchcraft scare in the area.
It could not be established whether after questioning the family, the inner council would go on and impose a fine or any form of punishment on members of the family or the elderly woman.

However, cases of witchcraft in traditional societies usually carry very heavy fines or punishment.
Headman at KaLanga umphakatsi, Solomon Mhambi Mbingo, confirmed that the inner-council has summoned the family of the elderly woman who was found naked at her neighbour’s homestead.

He revealed that the elderly woman’s family was summoned to appear before the inner-council about a week ago but it failed to do.
As a result, Mbingo said the family would now appear before the inner - council this coming Wednesday.
He explained that the decision to summon the elderly woman’s family was taken by the inner-council after consideration of the seriousness of the matter.

“The owner of the homestead, where the elderly woman was found, did not open a case either against the family of the elderly woman or the elderly woman herself.
“But we felt that it would be wrong if we (inner – council) did not discuss the matter because in future, you may find that we may be called upon to give a report or a testimony about how we handled the matter,” said Mbingo.
