LOBAMBA – Senate President Gelane Zwane and Speaker Themba Msibi insist that the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Swaziland Branch is still validly in office.

Through a joint press statement issued by the presiding officers yesterday, the duo said the executive committee of the Swaziland Branch, which was appointed for the duration of the 10th Parliament, remained, for all intents and purposes, validly in office. The executive committee was al dismissed from office by both Senators and Members of Parliament last week Wednesday after a Special General Meeting, where the Parliamentarians expressed their non-satisfaction with the work of the CPA, particularly its chairperson, Dvokodvweni MP Sitezi Dlamini.
Both Msibi and Zwane are Joint Presidents of the local CPA.

The presiding officers said having reflected on the proceedings of last week’s meeting, there was no resolution to remove the executive committee from office “assuming it was even possible to make such a resolution in terms of the constitution of the branch,” reads the press statement in part.  Through the statement, the duo, when reflecting on last week’s private meeting, stated that there was a question and answer session where some of those present indicated extreme dissatisfaction with the executive committee, but there was no formal resolution to remove the committee that was moved or seconded and subsequently adopted by the members.

“Some of those that indicated such sentiments further indicated that they had no intention of being members of the branch,” reads the statement.
Zwane and Msibi said while membership of the CPA Swaziland Branch was open to all parliamentarians, not all senators and MPs were members of the branch.
