MANZINI – A 48-year-old man, who spent 14 years in prison for murdering his father has been arrested after he allegedly brutally hacked his mother (80) to death with a bush knife while she was in her asleep.

The incident happened at kaKhutsala, Siteki on Ascension Day at around 4pm.
The mother popularly known as Gogo Siphiwe Martha Chibi resided with her son, (name deliberately withheld as he has yet to appear in court) whom she welcomed back home a few years after he had served a 14-year prison sentence for murdering his father, her husband.

At the time, Gogo Chibi is said to have said she was forgiving Phumlani and that she would hold no grudges for what he had done.
They had been living together with no problems until Thursday, which is remembered as the day when Jesus ascended to Heaven, that the son allegedly hacked his only surviving parent in a similar gruesome manner.
The son is expected to appear in court today.

A source privy to the information regarding the gruesome murder, who, however, preferred to remain anonymous, said Gogo Chibi, together with her son, were from attending the Ascension Day church service at the newly opened Assembles of God, Lukhula Branch.
“When they got home, Gogo Chibi indicated that she wanted to rest as she was tired and asked to be excused as she took a nap in her room.
“While she was still asleep, the son first checked if she was indeed asleep and after satisfying himself that she was, he went to fetch the bush knife, which he used in hacking her,” said the source.
