MPOLONJENI – A man of God was tortured and assaulted by a mob at Mpolonjeni near Siteki on Monday, following allegations that he broke into a neighbour’s homestead and stole E4 000.

This was revealed by Pastor Sandile Elijah Zwane (39), who is the founder of the Shepherd in the Mountain Ministry, a recently established small church in Siteki which holds brief prayer services on Sundays.

Worth noting is that Zwane was admitted to E50 000 bail by the High Court last year after he was arrested for allegedly raping and attempting to kill his wife.

Information gathered was that Zwane was at his homestead at Mpolonjeni when the mob, which was reportedly led by community police from the area, stormed his house and dragged him outside.
Zwane was reportedly alone when the mob arrived at his home.

Witnesses said the man of God, who has ministered in some churches around Siteki, was handcuffed before being dragged to a forest where he was tortured and assaulted as part of the interrogation methods applied by the mob.
Speaking to this publication on Wednesday, Zwane said he was still recovering from the injuries he sustained during the interrogation by the mob.
He also revealed how he was tortured.

“While I was handcuffed, they tied barbed wire around my neck and then placed my head into a ditch. They further assaulted me with the knobkerries they were carrying, demanding that I admit that I committed the offence (breaking into a neighbour’s house and stealing E4 000),” said Zwane, while revealing the names of the community police who were in the forefront.
