MAPUTO, MOZAMBIQUE – His Majesty king Mswati III and Inkhosikati LaMatsebula had the rare opportunity to witness a five-minute eye surgery at one of the most reputable eye hospitals on the continent.

This was at Dr Agarwal’s eye hospital in Maputo, Mozambique where they were taken on a brief tour of its operations yesterday afternoon.
The hospital is expected to open a branch in Manzini later this year and is said to have already secured two floors at the new Philani Clinic multi-storey building.

The hospital group, comprising the Agarwal family of doctors, has won national and international awards for their work while specialising in cataract, cornea conditions, retinal conditions, Computer Vision, UVEA, pediatric care, Cosmetic Oculoplasty, among others.
They have branches in India and several parts of the world. Three of these are in Mozambique and His Majesty had the opportunity to visit one of the branches in Maputo.

The hospital is said to have made a significant impression with the government of Mozambique.
Swaziland Ambassador to Mozambique Christian Nkambule said he had also undergone an eye operation at the hospital and so have a few local prominent persons.

He believes it will be of great benefit to the people of Swaziland, given the highly modern facilities and techniques it boasts. “I am sure they are going to look into the pricing issue to make it affordable to the Swazi people, especially because  our VAT and the cost of doing business in Swaziland is lower than that of Mozambique,” he said.
