MANZINI – As the country witnesses more loss of life to bike accidents, veteran bikers have said their novice counterparts need to respect the bike and the risks it comes with.

The veteran bikers were interviewed in the wake of biking accidents that have led to serious and fatal crashes in quick succession.
Most of the veteran bikers revealed that most new riders avoid starting from the beginning, which is to buy normal bikes and attending training involving safety programmes.
“Such training or safety programmes help to reduce the accident toll as there are a lot of dangers for riders on public roads.

“Last week we had a breakfast run and we had close to 50 bikers who were riding with us all over the country.
“We announced that we would be having a Bikers’ Indaba, where we focus on critical safety topics, unfortunately only a few bikers, about 14, came.

“This proves that the new bikers are not at all interested in learning about the sport and how to be successful and safe,” veteran biker, Nhlanhla Maphanga said.
Maphanga added that as veteran riders, they had noted that fatalities and injuries in the sport were not decreasing.

He said it was common knowledge that every new biker aspired to own the super bike, which is the sexiest and fastest motorbike, however, most people were not at all trained and did not know how to handle such bikes.
