MANZINI – A total of 30 knives have been confiscated from patrons of Alcapone Bar in Matsapha in one weekend.

The knives were taken from some patrons on the same weekend a man was killed in cold blood outside the bar. Hunting knives, war knives, Okapis and homemade pangas, were some of the weapons that were found hidden within the clothing of both male and female fun lovers at the bar.

Somehow, these weapons were sneaked into the bar despite the security personnel who man the entrance every weekend. Investigations by this publication revealed that the murder incident that occurred this weekend, happened after a number of close shave stabbings which took place inside the bar enclosure.

“At some point, I was forced to use my pellet gun and fired into the air to calm some angry revellers. The incident ended with a stabbing of one of my bouncers who had to receive a number of stitches to his wounded mouth,” said Mndeni Simelane, the man who runs the bar.
Simelane said he was disturbed by the incident where a patron was stabbed to death outside the club on Saturday.

“We try hard to protect our patrons such that we have increased our security detail to 10 security guards.  This is especially outside the club where the stabbing occurred,” Simelane said.
He said it was always difficult to control the swelling crowds outside the club, especially those who opt to enjoy their drinks while listening to music from their cars.

What complicated his situation in terms of controlling the crowds outside the bar was the fact that it was located on a street with three different clubs. He said these clubs were always packed with party animals that hop from one club to another and end up enjoying their drinks along the street.

“This then exposes us to criminal elements which we have no control over. This is because some of the patrons are not there to enjoy themselves but are targeting people to rob. I have planted two security guards within the toilet area as this has been identified as a hot spot where people are robbed, especially women and those who are intoxicated,” the bar owner further said.

Meanwhile, the police are still on the lookout for Melusi Shongwe of KaKhoza, who is alleged to have stabbed the reveller, who died on the spot.
He is said to have disappeared into the night after allegedly committing the offence.
