PIGG’S PEAK – A self-proclaimed rainmaker says he has the power to make the rain fall but will not allow it until he is allowed to see the King.

Mpostoli Dlamini, a resident of Mzimnene in northern Hhohho, said he had tried to see the King to deliver a special message that would put an end to the drought.
He alleged that certain people had barred him from going to the King.

Mpostoli boasts that he is known in the area for making rain fall, at will even when the rest of the country was dry. The self-proclaimed rainmaker is a father of three and has a wife.
He introduced himself as the son of Mniki as well as a great grandson of King Mswati II.

In the area, he is also known as an inyanga but he said he no longer practises as his ancestral spirits no longer want him to do so. When asked why he has been preventing the rain from falling, his response was that King Mswati II had a wish that needed to be fulfilled: “Mswati we sibili ufuna likhaya lakhe.”

Mpostoli said about 30 years ago, he received a special message in his dream from King Mswati II telling him that he had been given the power to make rain.
He said, in the dream, he was told to find an intfonga – a carved artifact he said had the power to make rain fall or to stop it.

Though the artifact looks like something carved by a human being, Mpostoli said he discovered it in a forest just like he was advised in the dream.
“I was told where to find it and when I went to the place he described, I found it,” said Mpostoli.

The artifact has a protruding naval which Mpostoli covers with a leather patch. He said it was the artifact that guided him on what to do if he needed rain.
The self proclaimed rainmaker said he first went to Hhohho umphakatsi in 2003 where he warned them about an impending drought if he was not taken to the King.
Mpostoli said it was not the first time people had gone to him to ask for rain.
