MBABANE – Frustrated at waiting for government to release the salary review report, public sector associations threatened to engage in a protest march to the Ministry of Public Service to demand its release.

Last Thursday, the collective leadership of the Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT), Swaziland Nurses Association (SNA), Swaziland National Association of Civil Servants (SNACS) and the Swaziland Association of Government Accounting Personnel (SNAGAP), informed government in writing about their intention to engage in a protest march to demand the release of the report.

They also met to discuss, among other things, the progress of the joint negotiation table and the non-release of the salary review report.
On Monday, government filed an application under a certificate of urgency in the Industrial Court seeking an order to stop the associations from marching to the ministry.

Yesterday, an interim order was granted by the court in favour of government restraining the public sector unions from proceeding with the protest action. Judge Nkosinathi Nkonyane issued the order.

Lawyer Sipho Madzinane represented the public sector unions, while Crown Counsel Bhekinkhosi Tsabedze, from the Attorney General’s chambers, appeared on behalf of government.

In the application before court, acting Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Public Service Felton Mhlongo submitted that government received a notice that the associations intended to engage in a protest action to demand the release of the report, which was compiled by LCC Capital

Consultants.

Mhlongo alleged that the consultant who was engaged to conduct the salary review exercise had submitted the report.
