MBABANE – The Swaziland Post and Telecommunications Corporation (SPTC) has charged two of its employees for allegedly causing an article to be published with false information.

The article was titled ‘Three suspended for protesting against being called tinkhala (crabs)’.
The two employees, Zanele Masilela and Themba Makhubu, who are stationed in the Customer Services department of the government parastatal, were first suspended but later reinstated and subsequently charged. They are also facing charges of insolence, false statement, gross insubordination and general misconduct.

They are further facing charges of gross misconduct, in that on or about October 8, 2015, they allegedly refused to heed to lawful instruction given by the acting Senior Manager Customer Services Menzi Hlophe during working hours.

“You are charged in terms of the SPTC Disciplinary Code, under General Misconduct. In that upon October 24, 2015, acting jointly and severally with Makhubu and Sipho Mashesha Dlamini and being recipients of letters dated October 19, 2015 you caused to be published an article with false information in the media entitled ‘three suspended for protesting against being called tinkhala’ without authorisation and following the proper channels,” reads one of the charges.

The two have also been slapped with the charge of uttering false statements in that they allegedly implicated the acting senior manager Customer Service by uttering false statements to the effect that he called employees crabs during the department’s weekly meeting.

Statement

According to the charge sheet, the statement mentioned in the Customer Services’ weekly meeting held on September 28, 2015 was a figure of speech, ‘kuyahlupha ngoba inkhala ihamba njenge nina’.
