MATSAPHA – The UNISWA non-academic staff has vowed to withhold its services for the preparations of the graduation if payment of their 6.5 per cent cost of living adjustment is delayed further.

During a picket held at the Kwaluseni Administration block yesterday, chanting non-academic staff members employed by the university made it clear that if they were not awarded their 6.5 per cent they would ensure that the graduation expected to be held on Saturday would not take place.

These utterances set the tone for the boisterous singing and dancing which was carried out by the workers yesterday during their lunch hour break.
It was revealed that a number of kombis and a bus conveyed other non academic staff members from the Mbabane health campus as well as workers from the Luyengo campus to join their counterparts at Kwaluseni.

Non-academic staff members from the three campuses include: the university’s transport department, maintenance, kitchen staff, secretaries, as well as those employed within the bursar’s office.

This was starkly conveyed in placards which were displayed by the staff members, who are affiliated to the Swaziland Union of Non-Academic Staff of Higher Institutions (SUNASHI) during the peaceful picket action launched yesterday at lunchtime.

Fundizwi Sikhondze, SUNASHI General Secretary, explained that they had opted to engage in the picket action because their demands to be awarded the 6.5 per cent cost of living adjustment by the university, through the Ministry of Education and training were not being met.

“UNISWA employees under the support of the Swaziland Union of Non Academic Staff of Higher Institutions will be engaging in lunchtime protests owing to the delay in the implementing of their cost of living adjustment for the 2015/2016 financial year,” Sikhondze said.
