NO MONEY FOR NEW 5-STAR HOTEL

EZULWINI – Government does not have money to build the E2 billion five-star hotel in Ezulwini, yet a contractor is already on site doing earthworks.

It has been established that government has not yet received a loan of E2 billion for the construction of the 500-room hotel. Government hopes to pay the contractor once the money has been obtained.

Loan applications have been sent to development agencies around the world. Nobody in government is entirely sure if the required amount will be received in time.

Bertram Stewart, Principal Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, said he would not dwell much on the matter because it was a contractual issue between government and the contractor, Inyatsi Construction.
Stewart said the contractor would be paid when the money has been received.

“That’s a contractual issue we are dealing with and the contractor will be paid when government has received the money,” he said.
Government is building a five-star hotel about 100 metres away from where another five-star hotel, owned by Sun International, was closed due to a slump in the hospitality industry.

Bheki Bhembe, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, confirmed, as well, that the country had not yet received the money for construction of the hotel.

However, he said, the loan of E1 billion for the construction of the International Convention Centre (ICC) had been approved by the Export and Import Bank of the Republic of China on Taiwan.
