DUZE – Eight people from the same royal kraal (umphakatsi) died on Friday in the accident that involved maidens.

Gundwane Gamedze, Siphofaneni Constituency Member of Parliament (MP), reluctantly confirmed that eight of the victims were from the same area.

He said six girls and one male were from Duze, under the Phonjwane Royal Kraal, while the eighth was from Sithobelweni, however, she had left with those from Phonjwane.

Gamedze noted that His Majesty King Mswati III had spoken, therefore, he couldn’t say anything more than that.
In vernacular he said: “Ayitekeki le! Bafele eNkhosini laba.” Loosely translated as he could not comment as the maidens had died while on royal duties.

He said the constituency was mourning the death of the accident victims with the nation as they were yet to reach their full potential in contributing towards the attaining of a better society.
He said the monarch had addressed his subjects.

“The King has spoken and we are merely enforcing what he has instructed us to do. I am directing the police to the affected families,” Gamedze said.
He said he had visited the homesteads of the victims in the company of members of the royal kraal and the police.
While visiting the families, Gamedze said he noted that the deceased were from Duze Primary School.

“Most were in the local schools and the psychological impact this has on them is beyond comprehension.”
He was, however, ecstatic that the monarch had said there was need to ensure that the maidens who survived the accident were given the best medical treatment.
