NEW HAVEN – A Swazi teacher collapsed and died outside her hotel room in Durban, South Africa on Saturday.

Phongolwane Primary School teacher Gugu Dlamini (54) was with some of her colleagues from the country when she suddenly collapsed after suffering from an attack of diabetes, while in the hotel on Saturday – shortly after 11pm.

Information reaching this publication was that her condition might have been triggered by reports of the tragic accident which left 10 maidens and three tindvuna dead in the country on the previous day.

It was gathered that the woman had earlier on failed to locate her relatives who attended the national event on her mobile phone, upon hearing about the accident, something which might have triggered her condition.
Although confirming the attendance some of the late teacher’s nieces at the annual Reed dance event, family members could neither deny nor confirm the reports concerning what triggered the attack.

Her devastated mother, Florence Dlamini, said Gugu suffered from diabetes and had always carried her medication with her.
“She was known to be diabetic, and we have been told that she suddenly slumped and died after complaining of an attack in her hotel room.

“However, the details are still scanty as we only received a report from her school’s head teacher. We are yet to get an official report from the teachers who she was with in Durban; I understand they will be coming back today (yesterday),” she said.

According to witnesses, Gugu was already inside her hotel room when she complained of an attack before reaching for her insulin injection.
She first assured her roommate that she would recover.
