GOVT SPENDS E4BN ON TENDERS IN 13 MONTHS

MBABANE – Government has spent at least E4 billion of taxpayers’ money in 13 months on tenders that were awarded to various local and international companies.


Leading the team of big spenders is the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, which spent about E1.5 billion on 87 companies.


The Ministry of Economic Planning and Development sits in the second spot of big spenders. The Prince Hlangusemphi–led ministry spent at least E1.3 billion paying various companies that were engaged in various projects related to the construction of the HMK III International Airport.


The Ministry of Health also spent a larger portion of taxpayer’s money, spending over E400 million on 37 companies.
Documents in the Times Investigations Desk’s possession reflect that sitting on the fourth position of big spenders is the Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology.


This ministry, which is headed by Dumisani Ndlangamandla, spent over E350 million in various tenders that were awarded to 24 companies.
Sitting in fifth position is the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade which spent over E84 million over five companies.
