FINED FOR HARASSING KING’S TEAM

SIGOMBENI – The Land Management Board (LMB) has ordered a resident of this rural community to offer a cow to His Majesty the King for serious misbehaviour.

The LMB is chaired by Clement Dlamini, the former Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives. 
Bebesha Madzinane has also been ordered to abandon a two-hectare portion of land on which he grows vegetables. He has been using the land for the past 30 years. He claims he was ordered to give it to Nkwazi Dlamini, a relative of one of the LMB members. The board ruled that the land belonged to Nkwazi.

He has been ordered to pay the fine in the form of a cow for allegedly uttering unpalatable words during a highly charged meeting held a couple of months ago in Sigombeni, outside Manzini.
He has not yet offered the cow but he told the Times SUNDAY that he had identified one of his beasts as the fat one deserving to be offered to the Monarch. Madzinane alleged that he was provoked by one of the LMB members, who called him a `Shangaan.’

  He alleges that the LMB member said, “Liyaphi lelishangane leli (why is this Shangaan attending this meeting).”  That Dlamini is a relative of one of the members of the LMB was confirmed by indlunkhulu (chiefdom authorities).  For now, the name of the LMB member who is a relative of Dlamini cannot be revealed as investigations into this matter are still ongoing.  Dlamini could not be reached for comment as he was reported to be in South Africa and was also unreachable through his mobile phone.

However, Eddie Madzinane, the Governor of Sigombeni Royal Kraal, confirmed in a brief interview, that the LMB member was indeed a relative of the man who had been given Madzinane’s vegetable garden.
The Times SUNDAY has learnt that the fine imposed on Madzinane and the subsequent order that he should surrender the land to Dlamini has divided the community into factions.
