WARDER ARRESTED FOR MURDER
MDONJANE – In a rather unusual case, a warder has been arrested for allegedly murdering a 21-year-old man and throwing his corpse into a canal where he later retrieved it and took it to the morgue.
The warder is stationed at Mdutshane and is alleged to have killed the man, Thabo Dlamini (21), after he suspected that he was dating his daughter.
After realising that he had died, he allegedly first tried to ‘warm’ him up near a fire but later threw him in a nearby water canal with the hope that he would regain consciousness.
When residents eventually discovered the floating body and raised an alarm, the warder allegedly rushed to the scene and took the body to the Mankayane mortuary where he dumped it and returned home without reporting to either the police or the man’s family with whom they are neighbours.
Thabo had applied the primitive way of alerting his girlfriend that he was within the vicinity by throwing a stone on the roof of the main house, not knowing that the girl’s father would be the first one to respond to the call on that day.
Thabo’s body was found floating at Mdlwayiza River at Mdonjane on Thursday morning after an alleged heavy assault by the warder the previous night.
The dumping into the river was interpreted to be an attempt to cover up the murder.
After allegedly assaulting Thabo, the warder is said to have tied him onto a tree and made a fire in the yard where he warmed himself up while keeping watch over the tied Thabo.
