ZOMBODZE EMUVA – A family is grieving after gunmen peppered their house with bullets, leaving the father dead and his elder son critically injured.

The attack, apparently linked to a feud in the family, happened at Zombodze Emuva on Monday evening.
Well-known motor mechanic and businessman Dumisa Mavuso (42), a father of 46 children, died after he was shot several times, in what seemed to be a targeted attack, which also left his  son, Sakhile (22) seriously injured.
The shooting comes exactly a week after Dumisa was stabbed during a fierce fight involving two of his brothers, who are currently in custody.

The incident was witnessed by one of the man’s two wives and two other sons, aged three and 15, who were all awake.
The family was in a relaxed mood, waiting to be served their supper, when a knock was heard at the door.
According to information sourced from the family, the occupants enquired who was at the door, and a man responded, saying his car had a mechanical fault and he desperately needed the services of the head of the family, who eked a living as a motor mechanic.

They opened the door and a man entered staggering as if he was intoxicated.
When asked what his problem was, the man simply pulled out a gun but Sakhile noticed that and swiftly jumped to try and wrestle the firearm away from the intruder.
Apparently, there was another man outside as the intruder called for help, and the other man smashed one of the windows and opened fire.

Several shots were fired, resulting in the death of the homeowner while his elder son, Sakhile, who was fighting one of the attackers, was also not spared.
It was after the shots were fired that Dumisa’s 15-year-old son bolted out of the house.

Fear

He recalled that after the men had shot his father, he ran out in fear, to seek refuge at a nearby homestead.
Asked if he was not afraid that the attackers could kill him outside, the teenager said everything happened out of reflex action.
