MANZINI – The man who allegedly sold a stolen tablet to the late Mozambican national, Luciano Melusi Zavale, yesterday told the court that police officers had planned to kill the Mozambican.

Sifiso Ndzimandze (20) of Fairview, had his four-hour trial yesterday before Magistrate Mthokozisi Dlamini, where he grilled the arresting officers and told them that they separated them and placed them in different rooms because they knew what they wanted to do to Zavale. This was after one of the officers, Constable Mfanawenkhosi’Gaddafi’ Dlamini, had led evidence.

“We went together with Ndumiso Myeni and found the suspect. He was then handcuffed by Myeni and asked where the tablet was. He informed him that he had left it with Zavale at the Enterprise Building. We proceeded there and found his brother, Armando, who told us where Zavale was. He was cautioned according to the judge’s rules and Nkambule handcuffed him,” the officer said.

Constable Dlamini further said they then proceeded to the police station with both the suspects, who were separated during questioning. The officer said the desk officer then ordered him to attend to Zavale, who they ended up taking to the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (RFM) Hospital. Constable Dlamini revealed that upon his return, he discovered that Ndzimandze had escaped from the police station.

“We all went to look for him at Fairview and we did not find him and we returned to the police station and informed our superiors of the events leading to his escape,” the officer said.
The suspect immediately got emotional and asked the officer why they had to separate him and Zavale during the interrogation.

“You have just informed the court that you left me in a room because you had to attend to Zavale, could you further explain to the court why you had to attend to him and what happened to him?” Ndzimandze asked.
The officer informed the court that Zavale had to be questioned and they had to leave Ndzimandze.

“Why did you question or had to interrogate him alone because you knew I had to be present too, as the seller or the one who had allegedly stolen the tablet. Why did you not question both of us at the same time?” Ndzimandze asked.
The officer explained that Zavale had to be questioned on the fact that the tablet was found in his possession despite that it had allegedly been sold to him by Ndzimandze.

“We were arrested together and conjoined, the normal procedure is that we were supposed to be interrogated together and not separately. On another note, how and why did Zavale collapse because he was normal before questioning, why did he have to collapse before I was questioned? You had to question the seller of the tablet and not the buyer,” Ndzimandze said.
