‘KAKONA’ NOW FACING 71 CHARGES

MBABANE – The Crown has added 44 more charges against prominent Manzini businessman Mfanukhona ‘Kakona’ Dlamini and his co-accused.


The businessman was initially facing 27 charges after he allegedly stole a number of vehicles in South Africa amounting to E1.3 million. Dlamini and his co-accused, Siza Sibeko of Hebeni and Souza Vincente Muambo from Mozambique, are now facing a total of 71 charges, which include car theft and contravening Section 6(1) of the Theft of Motor Vehicle Act 1991. The businessman and his co-accused were allegedly specialising in stealing Toyota Hilux brands. They are alleged to have stolen nine Toyota Hilux vehicles and a Toyota Quantum in the Republic of South Africa.


The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who is representing the Crown, yesterday filed an amended charge sheet at the High Court.
The added charges consist mostly of receiving or purchasing stolen car parts and failing to produce declarations showing purchase of motor vehicles when required to do so either by the police or a Customs official.


The vehicles were allegedly stolen in Durban, Rustenburg, La Lucia, Pongola, Marikana, Badplaas and Sulphursprings Plaas in the Republic of South Africa. Most of the cars were allegedly stolen while parked outside malls or designated parking areas.
They were allegedly then smuggled into the country and conveyed to Ngwane Park in Manzini where they allegedly altered, tampered with and repaired their engines.
Dlamini is currently out on E260 000 bail.


In the first count it is alleged that on November 9, 2012 at or near Nedbank Parking  lot, Lengsington Drive Durban North, the said accused each or all of them acting jointly in furtherance of a common purpose unlawfully and intentionally stole a Toyota Hilux double cab valued at E300 000. They are alleged to have conveyed the motor vehicle to Ngwane Park in the Manzini region where they altered, tampered and repaired the stolen motor vehicle.
On October 9, 2012, at or near Safari Spar Marikana, Rustenburg in the Republic of South Africa, the accused acting jointly in furtherance of a common purpose are alleged to have intentionally stolen a  silver grey Toyota valued at E280 000.

They are also alleged to have contravened Section 11 of the Theft of Motor Vehicle Act of 1991 as amended, in that upon or about the month of November 2012 at or near Ngwane Park, in the Manzini region, the said accused each or all of them acting in furtherance of a common purpose, did wrongfully and unlawfully alter, tamper and repair an engine of a Toyota Hilux which was stolen from Hales as to conceal or disguise the identification of the motor vehicle.
