MBABANE – Former Minister Sibusiso Shongwe’s lawyer was on Friday night robbed at gunpoint while at Mathangeni, Matsapha.

Mzwandile Sobandla Dlamini was driving towards his place of abode in his Iszuzu bakkie when two armed men pounced on him and demanded all his valuables.
The incident happened at about 9pm.

The robbers are said to have threatened to shoot him there and then if he resisted submission.
The thugs, who were also carrying knives, proceeded to stab Dlamini’s friend Sikhumbuzo Matsenjwa who was a passenger in the vehicle.
Matsenjwa was rushed to the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (rfm) Hospital in Manzini where he was treated and discharged.
The total value of the items which were taken from Dlamini amount to about E20 000.

The items which were taken from the prominent Manzini lawyer include among others, a Sony Xperia android phone, card holder, watch and money in cash amounting to over E400 which was in a wallet.
Dlamini, who sounded devastated, confirmed the incident but said he was not in a position to comment further on the matter as it was currently being investigated by the police.

“I can confirm that the incident happened but I cannot be in a position to comment further as the matter is now being handled by the police. It was reported at Sigodvweni Police Station on Friday,” said Dlamini.
Police Information and Communications Officer Assistant Superintendent Khulani Mamba confirmed the matter.

“Yes the matter was reported to the police and so far no one has been arrested as police are intensifying investigations,” said the police mouthpiece.
Dlamini is the lawyer who fought tooth and nail for the release of Shongwe after he was arrested by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC)
Shongwe was twice denied bail by the High Court

When his first bail application was dismissed, the court found that he was a flight risk and he had a potential of interfering with Crown witnesses.
This did not deter his lawyer (Dlamini) from fighting for his (Shongwe) release as he noted an appeal against the judgment denying his release.
