MATSAPHA – About 3 000 people attended the ‘Biggest Braai’ held at Second and Post Office Streets yesterday.

The braai began at  noon with companies and individuals braaing at different venues in the closed street.  As part of the attempt, participants were provided with a braai stand, charcoal and braai packs, which included wors, chicken and beef.

Thousands of people from different backgrounds came together around the fires and after the targeted 30 minutes, most people struggled to produce the necessary blazing fire from the provided charcoal and firelighters.

They then gathered twigs, plastic bags, sticks and dried leaves to get the fires burning. An announcement was eventually made by the event organiser to start braaing at the same time and by then the clock was going for 1pm.

People started grilling the meat and at 12:50pm, the event organiser had people in stitches when he announced that people could start eating the meat, however, they had to finish eating at exactly 1pm.
People enjoyed their meals with most wishing that there was porridge to go with the various meat provided for the event.
