MBABANE – It is good news for Imbali once again, as the Republic of China on Taiwan has donated money to purchase over 40 000 sneakers for maidens who will attend this year’s Umhlanga Ceremony.

The donation worth E3 million was made by the Ambassador, Thomas Chen, to the leader of Imbali Foundation, Inkhosatana Sikhanyiso, yesterday.
Chen said the donation (US$248 000) was the second donation in a row, as they also donated money towards the purchasing of backpacks last year.

“Umhlanga is the most important cultural event and we are privileged to be part of it. Last year we made a donation of US$300 000 for bag sets given to maidens. The donations is worth more than E3 million and will be used to purchase 40 000 sneakers for maidens,” he said.

He said the 40 000 pairs of sneakers to be purchased would be proudly made in Taiwan and further wished the kingdom a successful reed dance festival.

Receiving the donation was acting Minister of Economic Planning Lindiwe Dlamini. She said the cordial relationship enjoyed by the two countries should continue. Dlamini said she was commenting, before the donation, about the help given by Taiwan to the country.

She also said the Reed Dance Ceremony was synonymous with the character of Inkhosatana Sikhanyiso. She said she had led by   example by keeping herself pure until marriage and in the way she carried herself.

The minister said this was also evident in the way she sang with pride and her level of education.
“Siyatichenya ngawe, we will be watching you even this year. We would like to praise the womb which carried you, and those who raised you,” she said.
