SITEKI – A pastor has been accused of allegedly raping his wife after tying her up with a wire and hanging her from the rafters of their home.

The wife has since laid charges of rape and attempted murder against him.

Pastor Sandile Elijah Zwane (39), of Mpolonjeni near Siteki, was arrested by Siteki police last Thursday.
Zwane has been ministering in some churches around Siteki since graduating from the Southern African Nazarene University (SANU) where he studied Theology.

Following his arrest, the man of God appeared before Siteki Magistrate Nonhlanhla Dlamini last Friday.
The incident allegedly took place last week Monday.
The charge sheet states that Pastor Zwane allegedly had sexual intercourse with his wife after he had induced her to submit by threatening to kill her with a knife and further hanging her with a wire on the rafters.

Pastor Zwane did not plead to the charges he was facing when he appeared in court.
He was represented by Siteki-based attorney Mzobanzi Dlamini.
The Crown, which was represented by Patrick Mkhatjwa, applied for postponement of the matter.

Mkhatjwa submitted that the matter needed to be postponed while he awaits a directive from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in respect of count one.
The Magistrate granted the application and postponed the matter.

“Accused is remanded back to custody until 24 July (2015),” said the magistrate.
The defence attorney did not object to the postponement of the matter.
