KaKHOZA – A community police member (21) is fighting for his life at the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (RFM) Hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after he was allegedly shot by the police on Saturday during a skirmish at an alleged illegal bar situated at KaKhoza.

Thanduxolo Matsebula is alleged to have been outside the said bar, situated near Gigi’s Kitchen when a team of police offices from the Manzini Police Station arrived at the place to raid the illegal bar. This was after the police had allegedly received a tip-off from community members who were complaining about the noise from the said unlawful bar.

Matsebula’s mother, Phindile Ndlovu, of KaKhoza, alleged that her son had just finished playing pool inside the bar when a team of police officers pounced on the group of people who had been drinking alcohol inside the place, while while they raided it. She said her son had moved from the scene during the skirmish and went towards the road where a security guard had been standing.

“The police were inside the bar and my son had gone out when suddenly they started firing shots. He was shot in the chest while he was metres away from the rowdy crowd. My son does not drink or smoke, he had only gone to the place just to play pool. As a family, we need answers on his shooting as there are many witnesses, who revealed that he was nowhere near the place when the shooting occurred,” Matsebula said.
