MBABANE – The price of petrol has increased by 70 cents per litre from midnight.
The increase was announced by the Acting Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy, Winnie Stuart, yesterday.

Stewart said the under-recoveries were aggravated mainly by the deteriorating Lilangeni/US Dollar exchange rate, which is currently at E12.35 on average.

“The Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy cordially informs the public of the increase in the pump prices of petrol and diesel by 70 cents/litre and 40 cent/litre on illuminating paraffin with effect from midnight, Thursday, July 2 (effective on Friday July 3),” she said.

Stuart said the international brent crude oil price was increasing steadily. She said unleaded petrol (ULP 95)) would increase from E11 to E11.70, lead replacement petrol (LRP 95) would increase from E11.05/litre to E11.75/ litre.
Diesel 500 ppm sulphur (0.05%S) price will increase from E11.25/litre to E11.95/litre and diesel 50 ppm sulphur (0.055%S) will increase from E11.30/ litre to E12/litre.

Stewart said illuminating paraffin would increase from E7.80/litre to E8.20/litre.
“The ministry will continue to monitor the international crude oil markets and the fuel price situation closely and will notify the public when necessary,” she said.

The highest fuel price hike was last year in August, where it increased by 90c/litre.
