INYANGA TRAFFICKS GIRL TO MOZAMBIQUE
SIHHOYE – A teenage Swazi girl, aged 14, has become the latest victim of the human trafficking scourge.
*Neli, a grade V pupil, was lured away by a Mozambican traditional healer from her family at Sihhoye near Tshaneni before she was smuggled across the border into neighbouring Mozambique.
This occurred on April 25 this year. Her family has not seen her since then.
Police have confirmed that a Mozambican traditional healer (inyanga), who is said to frequently visit the kingdom for business, and his Swazi lover, are the prime suspects in the matter.
According to the police, the inyanga allegedly orchestrated and further carried out the trafficking of the teenager.
As part of their investigations, police have twice crossed the border into Mozambique, searching for the traditional healer with the hope of rescuing the teenage girl. However, on both occasions, their efforts were unsuccessful but police are not throwing in the towel.
They are preparing for another trip to Mozambique.
“We are currently processing certain documents that will authorise us to carry out our investigations in Mozambique,” Police Information and Communications Officer Assistant Superintendent Khulani Mamba said.
It is understood that, on their second visit to Mozambique, Swazi police were barred by their Mozambican counterparts from continuing with their investigations because they did not have the necessary authority or permit.
While police are preparing for their third visit to Mozambique, the girl’s family is getting more worried each passing day.
