MALKERNS – The much anticipated 2015 MTN BUSHFIRE Festival, saw local songstress Nomsa M, open the main stage for the weekend-long festivities.

The main stage came to life at 6:30pm when the MC Anacondza welcomed the multitudes who had gathered on the lawn. Unlike last year, the opening did not have that over-the-top, carnival theme but focused strictly on the music.

It was expected by most that fireworks and music would combine as it did in 2014, but it was straight to the programme this time around.
Anacondza and his co-MC for the festival, Shelly Belohrad, gave a brief welcome to the audience as they ran down the programme and mostly alerting them of the amphitheatre performances and the stalls all over the House on Fire grounds.

“The festival is not just about music but art, poetry and fashion as well. As you see, we are dressed by ZUBANI designs who are right here selling their clothes as well,” said Shelly.

The duo then introduced the Sibhaca dance group which was accompanied by Tlale Makhene. The Sibhaca Dance group gave an outstanding performance which was greatly appreciated by the fun- lovers.

At 7:30pm, Nomsa M took to the stage to officially open it musically for the rest of the artists. It is every artist’s dream to open the stage for such an internationally acclaimed music and arts festival, and the afro jazz singer did not disappoint.

Crowded

She stepped onto the MTN BUSHFIRE main stage at exactly 7:30pm with her four backup singers clad in canary yellow and African print embroidered custom-made outfits.

She opened the festival with her hit song ‘Intfombi YeLiSwati’ which was appreciated by the audience as they crowded the arena.
The festival is known for bringing together people from all over the globe, meaning  there is always a huge language barrier, so for an artist to get appreciation from the crowd despite the fact that they do not understand the song is a huge achievement.
