MKHWAKHWENI – A head teacher has committed suicide, allegedly after auditors had been to his school.

Manyandzeni Primary School Head teacher Mangalabane Matsenjwa hanged himself in a forest at Mkhwakhweni area, outside Hluti, after complaining of stress.
The death comes after many teachers had been in the headlines after being grilled by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) for mismanagement of school funds.

Two herd boys were shocked when a ringing cellphone led them to the hanging dead body of Matsenjwa on Wednesday morning.
The cellphone was ringing from the pocket of the late head teacher. Information gathered was that Matsenjwa had, of late, been exhibiting odd behaviour because of stress, and had earlier complained that auditors arrived at his school and bombarded him with a lot of questions.

Police have confirmed that Matsenjwa had complained of stress to his family after auditors had been to his school and questioned him.
Other reports suggest that the head teacher was expected to attend a parents meeting last week but allegedly failed to avail himself, leading to the postponement of the meeting. A teacher at the school, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the latest reports.

Following the discovery of Matsenjwa’s body, the boys were so startled that they ran away to report the matter to the elders.
When the discovery was made, teachers at his school had already become worried about his absence.
Police said the head teacher hanged himself with a plastic rope from a tree in the forest situated not far away from his homestead.

The 66-year-old polygamist had slept at his second wife’s home on the day prior to the incident, according to residents.
