BETHANY – The SMI Transport Manager who was reportedly kidnapped on Saturday was yesterday found murdered in a bush situated at Bethany near the Mahlanya-Manzini public road.

Calvin Ryan’s body was found by a team of police officers from Matsapha Police Station and senior police officers, already in a decomposed state. The bush where the body was found is situated next to Ricky’s Guest House.

This was after three of the four suspects were arrested by the police. Ryan’s body was found lying in the forest facing upwards and half naked. The body had bruises and stab wounds, which indicated that he was also stabbed with beer bottles. Ryan’s ankle had a gashing wound, which made officers believe that he was also hacked with a bush knife. On his back, he had what looked like burn wounds.

The police were led to the murder scene by the three suspects, two of whom were arrested on Tuesday evening, and the other, yesterday morning. The suspects showed the police where they had allegedly left Ryan’s body after assaulting him to death. A police officer, who preferred not to be named, said it was suspected that Ryan (53) was murdered on Saturday, the day he was kidnapped by his assailants.

“By the look of things, he was attacked by a group of men and was assaulted with different weapons including bottles, knives, sticks, fists and kicks. He could not even defend himself, judging from the position his body was found in. He was facing up with his knees up too,” the officer said at the scene. His body was taken by a police Scenes of Crime Unit vehicle to the mortuary.

Ryan’s family had not been notified at the time, however, when reporters from this publication arrived at the Matsapha Police Station, most of them had already gathered outside the main door after they had been ordered to report there by the police.
