MBABANE – The Lesotho King, Letsie III, has a special message for King Mswati III that has to be delivered by the Basotho Foreign and International Relations Minister, Tlohang Sekhamane.

Sekhamane was leading a special delegation tasked to meet His Majesty King Mswati III over the weekend, shortly after his arrival from Taiwan, where he was on an official visit.

The Basotho minister, in an interview with this publication, said he had been assigned by King Letsie III to meet King Mswati III.
He noted, however, that his delegation could not meet the Swazi monarch due to logistical problems. He said they resorted to establishing other communication means, which were also fruitless.

“We’ll seek communication that will link us with the Swazi King. While in Swaziland, we tried contacting the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation but his phone was not available in the mobile network.”

Pressed on what motivated the visit, Sekhamane said: “I cannot divulge the agenda of the meeting but it’s true, we were in Swaziland.”
However, while verifying the trip of the Basotho special delegation, this publication learnt that protocol was not observed.
Chief Mgwagwa Gamedze, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, was shocked that the delegation from Lesotho was in the country.

He said: “I was not aware they were in the country. What I gathered is that they had written to the high commission in Pretoria, seeking to meet His Majesty and they were informed that the King was out of the country on official business.”
Gamedze said whoever coordinated the trip failed to follow protocol as they knew what needed to be done when seeking to meet the King.
