MANZINI – The man who allegedly stole two import vehicles at Zia Motors and hacked a security guard with a bush knife before tying and locking him in a toilet was yesterday denied bail.

Ndumiso Nkululeko Shabalala (22) of Sicelwini is alleged to have entered the premises with another suspect, who has not yet been arrested, and used a bush knife to hack security guard Mduduzi Mamba in the left leg and head. He is said to have later tied the complainant with a wire and locked him inside the toilet.
When Shabalala entered the company office, he is alleged to have taken keys to a silver grey Toyota Corolla worth E60 000 and a Mazda Demio worth E35 000.

Shabalala and his co-accused allegedly made off with the vehicles together with the company gate keys valued at E300.
Before allegedly stealing the vehicles, the suspects are alleged to have broken into another vehicle, a BMW registered MSD 867 BH and damaged its dashboard valued at E15 000. They are also alleged to have stolen a Panasonic navigator valued at E3 000 in lawful possession of the owner of the garage, Saife Ullah. The suspect was charged with robbery and contravening the Motor Vehicle Act.

When Shabalala was arrested by the police at his home at Sicelwini, he was allegedly found in possession of 0.407 milligrammes of dagga without a valid permit or licence. He was further charged with contravening the Opium and Habit Forming Drug Act. Both cars were recovered on Saturday after members of the public tipped the police off.

Yesterday, the suspect appeared before Magistrate Dumisa Mazibuko after he had been brought to court by officers from the Serious Crimes Unit (Lukhozi).
