MKHULU (88) HACKED, FOUND WITH SLIT THROAT

MAHAMBA – An 88-year-old man was found hacked in the head with his throat slit yesterday morning.

David Cosi Gumbi of Jojo area in Mahamba, was a common figure during national celebrations, where he would usually invade the arena and display his Zulu inspired galloping dance moves.

His last born son, Zanele, said he found the unresponsive body of his father just next to the family cattle kraal, where the elderly man was last seen fixing a fence.

Zanele was shocked when he came across the blood-stained body, which had gash wounds in the head.
He couldn’t summon the courage to get close to investigate and, instead, he returned to the family compound to report that his father was dead.
Zanele only got to know of the slit in the elderly man’s throat upon the arrival of the police.

The time was around 6:30am yesterday when Zanele made the nerve-wrecking discovery.
He was in the company of a neighbour, who he had asked to help him locate his father’s whereabouts, as the elderly man had not returned home the previous night.

“We went to sleep believing that my father was inside his bedroom, where he usually relaxed in solitude.
He was not used to sleeping out, so when I discovered that his room was empty in the morning, I suspected that something was amiss,” Zanele explained.

The 51-year-old man recalled that he last saw his father in the family backyard, just next to the family kraal, where he had been busy fixing a fence at around 3pm the previous day.
