THEY WANT TO STARVE US TO DEATH – CJ
MBABANE – The Chief Justice Michael Ramodibedi has accused the police and the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) of pushing him and his family to the point of starvation and death.
Today marks the sixth day since he locked himself inside his house with his family after the ACC wanted to execute a warrant of his arrest on three charges. In an interview with the Times of Swaziland, Ramodibedi complained that the treatment he was subjected to did not befit his status as chief justice.
“They switched off electricity but later it was restored. They have also disconnected water supply. I am without water yet I am with my children here. They are starving us. They have denied us food and the people who bring us food are chased away,” Ramodibedi said.
He also said he was with his wife inside the house.
“This is what they do to a whole chief justice of a country,” he said.
Investigators of the ACC and police have made various attempts to get Ramodibedi out of his house, without success. Soon after the arrest of the former Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Sibusiso Shongwe, he was taken to Ramodibedi’s house at the judges’ complex and was made to pretend as if he had come to meet the CJ. However, Ramodibedi did not open the door.
He is reported to have said the police and officers from the ACC wanted to kill him.
His former chauffeur Mduduzi Mnisi, popularly known as ‘Twelve’ for his height, was also used as bait to get the head of the Judiciary out of his house by the ACC investigators and the police last week. Again, the attempt yielded no results as Ramodibedi refused to open the door.
