MBABANE – The Chief Justice Michael Ramodibedi has accused the police and the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) of pushing him and his family to the point of starvation and death.

Today marks the sixth day since he locked himself inside his house with his family after the ACC wanted to execute a warrant of his arrest on three charges. In an interview with the Times of Swaziland, Ramodibedi complained that the treatment he was subjected to did not befit his status as chief justice.

“They switched off electricity but later it was restored. They have also disconnected water supply. I am without water yet I am with my children here. They are starving us. They have denied us food and the people who bring us food are chased away,” Ramodibedi said.
He also said he was with his wife inside the house.

“This is what they do to a whole chief justice of a country,” he said.
Investigators of the ACC and police have made various attempts to get Ramodibedi out of his house, without success. Soon after the arrest of the former Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Sibusiso Shongwe, he was taken to Ramodibedi’s house at the judges’ complex and was made to pretend as if he had come to meet the CJ. However, Ramodibedi did not open the door.

He is reported to have said the police and officers from the ACC wanted to kill him.
His former chauffeur Mduduzi Mnisi, popularly known as ‘Twelve’ for his height, was also used as bait to get the head of the Judiciary out of his house by the ACC investigators and the police last week. Again, the attempt yielded no results as Ramodibedi refused to open the door.

simple. save your children, hand yourself over to the authority. what is the worse case scenario that could happen to you in their hands? lose a tooth? not bad as opposed to losing your children.

indeed the fears of the judge are justified if anything said by Jacobus Anandale in his submission for admission to be afforded bail are to go by. While it is legally justifiable that indeed he needs to face up to his offences the latest treatment against suspects on very respectable and no confrontation and excessive use of force by our security personnel is quite amazing. While defeating the ends of justice is a crime but by no means should suspects be denied access to their medication, beaten or excessive use of force. As a country and individuals we should all be concerned because it still shows conceieted efforts by the powers that be to break the law. Indeed two wrongs can not make a wright. We still need confidence in the manner the law is applied beyond the apprehension of major role players in society. The code of conduct for the police service is long overdue. It should therefore concern every right thinking Swazi to witness the latest account by the detained judge. The conclusion that can be drawn from the events of the last 2 months is that the use of excessive force by the police service is a cause for concern. Another similar incident is that of SNAT Secretary General- for all its worth I still fail to understand why would you forcefully enter a mid bus in the rear gate and forcefully drag down to the ground, kick and a citizen in the manner it was done. It just does not add up. It does not align itself with the proclaimed value system that we preach to the world over as it makes our leaders liars and a shame. Indeed we need to demonstrate the principles that we preach by living them. For now it makes sense for the Ramodibedi to seek intervention of his country in this case. The least of things is the inhumane subjection of non militant nor physical armed suspects who have allegedly erred into this undesirable inhumane conduct. As it were it make sense to allow access to food and other amenities. The police commissioner and the prime minister owes this country, its people to lead by example. Of course the claims on ministers taking bribes from investors and kingsmen needs to investigated and the dirt cleaned inside out. In deed considering this submission the equality in law will seem to have been applied. ACC has a duty to trace the said claim arising from the media and touch base with some of the possible sources. For we know that if a proxy is nominated by any person indeed that person is privy to the matters that he had to handle. It therefore follows that while Shan may not be in the vicinity of this country if the ACC is doing what it is meant to do and not simply a which hunt for fulfilling the Prime Minister they out to take steps and interrogate this and purge the countries administration of the courage scourge. Who ever was denying the fact that about E80,000,000 is lost to corruption but look not far. The leads given by the informant are enough to make conclusions. For instance if you have an SUV that is worth 600,000 thousand monthly instalments do provide a trail but if there is no proof of that something does not add up. We all generally keep large sums of money with the financial institutions (about 95%). It is quite unlikely therefore for individuals to take along some large some of money such as 600,000 to an institution for an SUV. All the indicators are there. Fact is this should not be a witch hunt but at a large scale purging society of the corruption scourge rather.
