MANZINI – Traffic was brought to a standstill along the MR3 road after a horrific accident involving two vehicles near Logoba.

The accident occurred during the peak hours just a few metres from the Logoba overhead bridge.

Police sources said a Kia sedan, which was driving towards Mbabane, jumped into the opposite lane, and collided with a Toyota van which was travelling to Manzini before landing on its lane again.
The sources said it was still a mystery what might have caused the Kia to be flung from its lane.

Deputy Police Information and Communications Officer Inspector Phindile Vilakati said they were still investigating the cause of the accident. “The drivers of both cars were seriously injured, and they were both rushed to the hospital,” she said.

She mentioned that both lanes were closed for some hours while police and officers from the Fire and Emergency Services cleared the road.

Vilakati said people who were able to manoeuvre through the traffic were pedestrians and motorcyclists. At the time of compiling this report around 7pm, traffic driving towards Mbabane was still at a standstill.
This queue of cars was seen as far as the traffic lights situated near the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (RFM) Hospital.

In a bid to avoid the traffic jam, some motorists decided to use the bypass road through Ngwane Park to join the Yith’bantu Highway with the intention of joining at Mhlaleni.
However, they found a similar situation.

This is eveidence enough that only one free way joining the two major cities of Swaziland is not enough. We need to consider new and alternative road improvement between the two cities. take for instance the route which crosses from Mhlaleni Mbikwakwe to Ludzeludze and the road passing through engabezweni which is closed for public use. They should be considered for short term relief and a new complet freeway should also be looked at
