Social media has by far proven to be an incredible tool in individual, business and corporate interaction; if utilised responsibly, it could yield copious gain. Follow me briefly as I point out tips on how to responsibly utilise social media.

PROFILE PICTURE

Clear identity and branding is crucial in establishing one’s presence in life generally, hence ensure that on social media you do have an excellent profile picture. For good networking and marketing, it is crucial that you bear a good image or semblance. If without a picture or with one that lacks quality, do not expect to be taken seriously.

PUBLISHING
Ensure that what you post on your wall or on others’ walls is appropriate in the sense of being respectful, accurate and necessary. Whatever you post, at the click of just one button, has a potential of being seen by millions, so ensure that it is not what could portray negative image concerning you.

PERSONAL LIFE
Avoid revealing much of your personal life on social media. Social media is not a place where you could hang your dirty laundry and reveal your frustrations; it could be news for some, worst; your enemies and moreover could turn some off.

TAGGING
Tag when necessary; do not overuse this function or tag individuals or organisations irrelevant to your post, for that could be a turn off.

PEAK TIMES
If a business person or promoter, takes advantage of social media peak times. Peak times are 5am, 1pm and 8pm. During peak times, chances for your post to be visible to many are high for that is when social networks have maximum presence.

CONFLICT
Desist from cyber spats, for they can be consuming and time wasting. Social media is not a place to prove points. Learn to be and allow others to be. Stand for what you stand for, learn from others, moreover, agree to disagree!

BLOCKING
Be free to utilise the ‘Block’ function whenever you desire, it is for your benefit. If there be a stalker, a cyber bully- do not hesitate or debate about it, click your ‘Block’ function.
