DNA TEST PROVES MKHULU (65) IMPREGNATED MINOR (12)
MBABANE – A man has been arrested after DNA tests proved that he impregnated his sister-in-law, who was 12 at the time.
The incident happened in late 2013 and this publication reported about it that November.
The man, who will not be named to protect the identity of the minor, was 65 years old when he impregnated the child.
The man was arrested last month after the tests proved that he had indeed fathered the child with the girl.
The incident happened at St Phillips, near Siphofaneni.
The girl’s uncle, who had been following the case on behalf of the family, said he had been called by the police last month to inform him that the man had been arrested after the DNA tests proved that he had fathered the child with the minor.
“I got a call sometime last month informing us, as a family, that the man had been arrested after tests proved that he was the father of the child,” the uncle said.
“He is currently kept somewhere in Big Bend and we have not been told of a court date,” he said.
He said his brother, the child’s father, was currently indisposed due to the stress caused by the matter.
The community was shocked when 12-year-old *Carol’s stomach started bulging and she developed pimples on her face.
This resulted in her family making an enquiry and the girl was confronted. She later confessed that she had been sexually abused by her brother-in-law.
The man, *Selby, when interviewed at the time, adamantly denied that he had sexually abused the minor.
The minor had been staying at her sister’s marital homestead, about 11 kilometres away, taking care of a toddler while she was at work.
*Carol is reported to have shown up at home one morning, saying she had been chased away by her brother-in-law and had to walk the 11-kilometre distance on foot.
