MBABANE - The Swaziland Television Authority (STVA) has paid about E2.1 million as packages to the employees who were affected by the restructuring process.

This was revealed by the Chief executive officer (CEO) of the television station, Bongani S’gcokosiyancinca Dlamini yesterday, during a press conference in his office.

“The company has paid about E2.1 million as packages. More money is still to be paid since the process is still ongoing,” he said.
Dlamini said some of the employees who were paid had taken voluntary exit packages; others had retired through statutory basis.
He said others had retired by standard termination of old contracts, ushering in new contracts. He said this was a consequence of the company’s turnaround strategy.

He said they were implementing the changes so they could be in line with the Public Enterprise Unit (PEU) Act.
Dlamini said the restructuring process in the company had been conducted by a consultancy, SAMKHO. He said the money was what had been paid so far, and more would be paid as a lot of turnarounds were still ongoing.

The CEO said they were clarifying some information, which the public might receive wrongly.
The station’s Corporate Affairs Manager, Mncedisi Mayisela, said no one had been fired at Swazi TV. He said restructuring and dismissing employees had different processes according to the Employment Act, 1980 (as amended).

He said the restructuring process was conducted based on a report by SAMKHO Consultancy, which was hired by the Board of Directors.
