NHLANGANO – Shiselweni Regional Administrator Themba Masuku is worried about the streak of murders in the region and the impact such could have on the country’s tourism.

Speaking to the media yesterday, Masuku said it was quite alarming that about 40 lives had been lost in the region through killings and counter killings since January, 2014. In Nhlangano town alone 14 people were killed, followed by nine in Hluthi, seven in Hlatikhulu, four in Gege and Lavumisa and two at KaPhunga.

The latest statistics availed by the police have revealed that nine people were killed in the region since the inception of the current year.
Masuku said the statistics were reason enough to cause alarm to the country’s citizens, and called for everyone to take a role in the quest to put an end to this societal malaise. He said while he could not be certain about the actual causes of the gruesome murders that have occurred some bore the semblance of people wanting to kill others because of scores they wanted to settle.

“The rising levels of intolerance and impatience among some members of our society and their unwillingness to resolve differences amicably could also be a cause of this phenomenon,” he expanded. He emphasized that the image of the country was always affected whenever there was a spate of violent crime, saying no sensible investor would dream of doing business under such circumstances.
